Outstanding Objective Led Planning in the Early Years

Objective led planning or ‘in the moment planning’ is currently popular with early years practitioners and with good reason- it establishes a thoroughly child centred approach at the heart of the curriculum. However, the practicalities of establishing and maintaining high quality, objective led planning, with the right balance of teaching and play based learning is demanding and not without its challenges.

Delegates will:

  • Acquire depth of understanding in the area of objective led planning; including use of baseline information and strategic long term thinking.
  • Practise mid- term planning, with child centred learning (rather than topic driven objectives) as a clear focus.
  • Review different types of play regarding relevance, interest and learning; for higher levels of engagement, concentration, creativity and critical thinking.
  • Consider and develop ideas for differentiation and challenge within a curriculum which is primarily child initiated
  • Evaluate own planning and practice, identifying next steps towards further improvement.
